I Know What I Know

In keeping with what is slowly emerging as a tradition of knowing people who are later accused and/or revealed to be child molestors, just now (Shelley is still involved in the phone conversation) one of our friends called to inform us that the husband of a dear friend of ours–and a long-time youth minister at his chuch–has been accused of touching two girls inappropriately. I’ve known this man for nearly 6 years.

I’m not going to post any links, because the news service reporting it has named names (of course), and I have a thing about that. He is now utterly destroyed. Game over. Thank you for playing. If he’s innocent, he’ll never find work again. If he’s guilty, he’ll at best become someone’s prag in prison, and at worst he’ll simply be killed.

If he did it, well… There’s no need for me to reiterate what I said the first time. I must admit, though, that I’m a bit more shaken up about this instance than I was with the other one. The other one surprised me, but I never had a moment of disbelief. The present case, however, I’m finding more and more difficult to believe every minute.
