I also forgot to mention that yesterday I received another dissertation chapter from my advisor. She thinks that with one more revision (three in all) it will be ready to defend. There are only two more chapters left, and right now I’m waiting on material from interlibrary loan and taking notes on some poems (I have at this point about 8 pages of notes on 60 lines of poetry). Completing a working draft by the summer should be no problem, and one of my other advisors has told me he wants to work with me on it this summer.

In the meantime, I’m trying to get my hands on as many related articles from Victorian periodicals as I can. I feel really uncomfortable making broad claims (“this was widely discussed,” etc), and so I’m compiling what might turn into an appendix to the dissertation. When I’m not doing that, I’m finishing up Foucault, plowing through Isobel Armstrong, leisurely reading Sally Mitchell, and, for the sheer pleasure of it, reading as much Ruskin as I can get my hands on.

Must teach now.
